Lanzarote is one of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast. The small but varied island is a wonderful oasis. They say the island has a very intense energy. Maybe the secret lies in the mix of: The volcanos - not only in the Timanfaya National Park; The green, vegetated north; The buildings inspired by the island's artist Cesar Manrique and the all-embracing Atlantic which sends its waves towards the coast of Lanzarote.
Caleta de Famara
Located in the northwest of the island where the wind and the waves dictate the days. Famara is the centre of surf culture in Lanzarote. During daytime you will find the surfer girls and boys on their boards in the water, in the ocean. At night they all meet in the bars, restaurants, surfshops and supermarkets to happily talk about their wonderful day of surfing.
The village is located at the western end of the 6 km long beach of Famara. The 600 metres high cliff line "El Risco" guards the village to the east - simply breathtaking. Every evening at sunset you will find a unique play of colors surrounding the cliff line.
The bay, the cliffs, the island offshore in the north and the majority of landscape around the village form the nature reserve "Archipielago Chinijo". The unique flora and fauna deserve protection - on land as well as in the water.
The closest town Teguise can be reached by car in about 15 minutes.

Airlines flying to Lanzarote
Arrival and departure are on Saturday or Sunday. If you arrive in Lanzarote any other day you have to ask first and we would count the extra days as Surfari days where you can explore the island or enjoy to surf. The surfcamp is in the village Famara on the Canary Island of Lanzarote.
Surfspots and climate
Lanzarote is called the "Hawaii of Europe" and is spoilt with a choice of places to surf. There is something for all levels from total beginners to advanced surfers. You can find more information on Wannasurf or in the Stormriderguide Europe. A good wave forecast for your holiday with us can be found on Magicseaweed.
The biggest and most consistent waves can be found in the winter between October and April. In summer you will find smaller waves and warmer water. In late summer you can even surf in shorts and bikini.
The water temperature lies between 24 degrees in August/ September and around 18 degrees in February. A 3/2 mm wetsuit should be perfect for you.
The outside temperature averages at about 22 degrees. In midsummer the average lies at 25 degrees, in winter at about 18 degrees.
The climate of the island changes now and again. Sometimes suddenly the wind starts to blow from the southeast for a couple of hours or days. This is called "Calima". The winds from the Sahara take all humidity from the air and bring a lot of heat to Lanzarote.
